Access Services

Access Services includes Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and Reserves. The Check Out Desk is on the 1st floor of the Library.

LOST & FOUND

Buley Library maintains a lost and found box at the Circulation Desk and is the first place to check when you've lost a personal item.  The IT Help Desk on the first floor of Buley, as well as Campus Police, should also be contacted if you still haven’t found your lost items. The University Police Department is located in the Granoff Health Center and can be contacted at (203) 392-5375.

SCANNING

Buley Library has two scanners on the first floor of the library and one scanner in the periodical room downstairs. These scanners will copy items and will give you the option to email or save to a flash drive. You cannot print directly from Library scanners.

RESTROOMS IN THE LIBRARY BUILDING

Restrooms are available on each floor of Buley Library. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are located on the first floor of the library.

FOOD & DRINK

Food and drink are prohibited near University computers, according to the Office of Information Technology policies (please see the lab for details.) Patrons should also take extra care in the carpeted areas of the library.

NOISE IN THE LIBRARY

  1. Please be considerate of others and keep noise to a minimum while in the library. This includes, but is not limited to, excessive talking, cell phone use, radios, music players, loud sound effects on computers/laptops, as well as engaging in any behavior that may disturb library users.

  2. Violators of this policy may be asked to leave the building.

  3. Certain areas are designated as "Quiet" or "Silent" Study areas. Please be especially courteous in these shared spaces!

    • The 2nd/3rd floor Reading Rooms with the Spiral Staircase and Stained Glass Window are Silent Study Areas

      • Take conversations outside.

      • Use headphones. (And be aware that some headphones are quite noisy at loud sound levels.)

      • Set cell phones to vibrate/silent mode.

    • The areas around the bookshelves in the back (street-side) part of the library on the Ground, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors are Quiet Study Areas.

      • Keep conversation to a low level.

      • Turn your cell phone to vibrate/silent mode.

      • Use headphones.

    • Study rooms have doors, but are NOT soundproof.

LOST UNIVERSITY IDS

Report a lost or stolen ID card within 24 hours to the University Card Office. You may be held liable for any charges made on your Hoot Loot card. Refer to the University Card Office Policies for additional information.

Students, faculty, and staff are responsible for reporting lost or stolen student IDs to the Circulation Desk as soon as possible. If the library is not notified about the lost ID, you may be held responsible for any material checked out under your name.

A new student ID can be obtained by going to the University Card Office in the Wintergreen Building. A fee will be charged for the replacement of lost, stolen, or damaged cards. The first replacement fee will be $10.00; all other replacements thereafter will be $20.00.

 

TELEPHONE & CELL PHONE USE

As a courtesy to others, please turn off cell phones when entering the library. Cell phones aren’t allowed in the main areas of the library but can be used in the outer lobby of Buley and in the front and back inside stairwells.

EMERGENCIES

Please report any emergencies to the Check Out Desk or any library personnel in the area. Everyone must evacuate the library immediately when the alarm sounds and remain outside until the Police or Fire Department personnel announce that it's safe to reenter the library.

SMOKING ON THE SCSU CAMPUS

Southern Connecticut State University is a tobacco-free campus. Smoking and vaping is prohibited inside and outside all buildings, and this restriction applies to all indoor space, including private faculty and administrative offices and dining facilities.
