Requesting other items

FIRST, determine that we do not have the item in full text online.

For articles, use the journal finder (also available as the Journal Title Search on the library homepage). For books, search SouthernSearch, the Library Catalog, which includes e-books.

Out of state students may request copies/scans of materials we have in print or microfilm. Additional information can be found on the ILL Guide and you can submit a normal Interlibrary Loan request using your out of state address for your mailing address. Copyright restrictions may apply.

Buley Library will deliver SCSU books to students or faculty who live out-of-state, and who are currently enrolled in an SCSU distance education program. A maximum of five books, per semester, will be delivered to your home address. Books will circulate for 2 months and can't be renewed. Before filling out a form, search the online catalog to insure that our library owns the book. We will ship all books through UPS to ensure the safe and prompt delivery of materials.

Tips for Book Delivery:

  • Your local public library may be the fastest way to get your books. Many libraries participate in consortia and have access to the collections of other public and college libraries in your state.
  • Currently the library will only ship books owned by Southern Connecticut State University.
  • Make sure that the book is not checked out or on reserves. The library record should say “available.” We will inform you if the book is missing from our collection.
  • Reference and Connecticut Room books do not circulate and will say “SCSU Reference” and “Library Use Only” in our online catalog.
  • Curriculum Lab resources will indicate that the material is available for circulation. At this time, this special collection does not circulate for distance education patrons.
  • Buley Library will NOT send non-print material such as videos, CDs, or DVDs.

Book Returns

You can return books by US Mail, FedEx or UPS. We recommend that your books be returned by a delivery service that will insure and track your material. Until we receive the books back, you are responsible for any lost books or overdue fines incurred.

The library will allow one renewal for 48 days, unless the item has been requested by another library patron. Material may be renewed by phone at (203) 392-5756 or online. If you’re renewing online go to the library home page and click on the link for "Access Your Library Record." For additional information please contact Rebecca Hedreen, our distance education librarian.
