Search Reference Books for Background Info and Review

Often, the first step to understanding something is knowing the background. Search for terms and concepts to better understand your reading:

Additional Dictionaries and Encyclopedias

Encyclopedias, dictionaries and other Reference books, print and online, help you find definitions, explanations, and guidelines. Books with links are online; books with call numbers are in the Reference Collection on the 1st floor of the library unless otherwise noted. Some books we have in both formats.

Browse the Shelves

Most books and other items in the library are organized by the Library of Congress Call Number system. In that system, the basic sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) are under Q and medicine is under R.

Book related directly to Nursing are in the RTs, while the rest of the Rs are other aspects of medicine. Anatomy and Physiology are considered part of basic science, and are in the QMs and QPs, respectively. Some of immunology and infectious disease resources are in QR (microbiology) You'll find medical materials in the STACKS (3rd floor), Oversized Books (3rd floor), Media (1st floor), and Reference (1st floor). You will also find related subjects in the social sciences (H) and instrumentation and technology (T) (you should search specifically for your topic, as these are LARGE sections).

Here are the subjects associated with specific call numbers, in case you'd like to browse. However, if you are looking for something specific, searching CONSULS is usually quicker.
