You will need a Google Account to login to the Chromebook. If you don't have one you can signup here.

Are there any Chromebooks available?

You can check what's available in SouthernSearch.

How to Borrow

  • Chromebooks can be borrowed from the Buley Library Check-out Desk anytime the library is open.
  • You will have to fill out and sign two forms: A Library Loan Agreement and the required SCSU Property Loan Form
  • Loans are for 21 days, but the loan can be extended two times. Let us know if you have extenuating circumstances and need more time.
  • We will help you setup the Chromebook and get it connected to the eduroam network.
  • If you have any tech issues, please reach out to librarysystems@southernct.edu. We will attempt to resolve your issue before referring to the SCSU IT Helpdesk.

What to do when you are finished

  • Bring the Chromebook back to the Buley Library Check-out Desk anytime the library is open.
  • We will perform a quick inspection for any damage.
    • The Chromebook replacement value is $250 and a replacement AC Adapter is $55. You will be charged for a lost or damaged device.
  • The device will be quarantined for a 3-day period before the Library Systems staff wipe down and clear any remaining user data.

How do I use a Chromebook?

The Chromebook experience is a lot like using your computer all inside a web browser. It has been designed with ease of use in mind. If you have a question on how to use a Chromebook, start with Google's own How-to Guide.

What about Microsoft Office, Excel or Outlook?

You can use all your familiar Microsoft Office applications as Cloud Apps in Office365. To learn more about Office365, please see the IT Helpdesk website.

What accessibility features does a Chromebook have?

If you need accessibility features in Chrome, such as making the text larger or turning on the screen reader, you can learn about it here.
