Student Workers

Working on-campus is a great way to gain real work experience and earn a some money, all while maintaining focus on academic pursuits! We understand you are students, and prioritize your education by being flexible with your class schedule. Library Services hires a number of student workers during the year to assist with operations in the library. We have need to student workers all hours the library is open, including nights and weekends.

Here are some of the types of work across library divisions:
  • Access Services - assisting library users at the check-out desk, shelving returned materials, retrieving requests from the shelves, keeping materials on the shelves neat and orderly. We are looking for those who have strong customer service skills.
  • Research and Instruction - maintaining the library's reference collection, including shelving and retrieving materials, neatening and moving books on the shelves, and updating and replacing signage. Clerical and data entry. Assisting instruction librarians with preparation for instruction classes, exhibits, and other projects. Optional work in customer service, marketing, and social media.
  • Technical Services - assisting with processing library materials, serials and microfilm shelving and shelf reading, work on scanning projects, and sorting materials for recycling.  We need students who are able to do repetitive tasks, are detail-oriented, and can lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Special Collections - assist users with retrieving and handling materials in special collections. Assist with organization and conservation work in special collections storage vault.
  • Library Administration - Providing assistance at the library security desk. Closing and securing the library daily.

The library prioritizes hiring students who are eligible for Federal Work Study. No experience is necessary, but we are especially interested in those who have prior library experience, either paid or volunteer.

Graduate Assistants

Library Access Services -- Weekend

We are seeking a Graduate student in Library and Information Science who is interested in a Graduate
Assistantship in Library Access Services. This position would work 10-hours a week on Saturday and Sunday. Previous reference experience is a plus.
