The Makerspace is being developed on the ground floor of Buley Library in the large alcove marked "Media," opposite the Special Collections area.
The first installation elements (February, 2016) will be collaborative work tables around flat-screen LEDs with conventional and HDMI ports for use with tablets, laptops, media players and other peripherals and devices.
To start, the technology lending collection and 3D printers are housed within the Library Technical Services area (ground floor stacks behind the elevators) and can be used by appointment. Ultimately these elements will be more easily accessed.
Space: The area is open and flexible and operates during most library hours and by appointment (dependent on student assistant/UA funding). The space can be reserved for use by classes and groups with preference given to student groups which have participants from a variety of majors.
Collections: Items and kits must be signed out for use and returned in reusable condition. Kits will be inventoried on check-out and check-in.
Access Policies: Currently the robot table, green screen, large screen televisions, and "design lab" may be used on a "first come" basis. Collection items may be checked out according to item borrowing policies.
Committee members have been appointed by the Library Director and have various roles in the Library. Full contact information can be found in the library directory; email links are below.
