A beginner's guide to library research for students working on FYRE projects in INQ 101!

How Do I Get My Citations Right?

Citation for academic papers can be kind of confusing, but we're here to help!

Did you know that SouthernSearch can help you cite any resources you find there? Just click on the quotation mark symbol in the upper right-hand corner. Be careful, though! Not all the suggested citations are complete. Use the Purdue OWL to make sure you're getting everything, and always proofread before handing anything in. If you're not sure, ask a librarian to look it over with you.

How Can I Tell if I'm Plagiarizing?

How to Identify Written Plagiarism: If your own words are being used and it's your idea, you're not plagiarizing. If your own words are being used but it's not your idea, you're paraphrasing and need to cite. If you're not using your own words but are using quotation marks or a block quote, then you're not plagiarizing. If you're not using your own words and not using quotation marks or a block quote, then you are plagiarizing and need to quote instead.
