What's a Subject Librarian For?

You've been told it's important to know who your librarian is, but why is that? What can a librarian do for you?

"The role of a librarian is to make sense of the world of information. If that's not a qualification for superhero-dom, what is?"

~Nancy Pearl

Every class (not just your major!) has a subject librarian who can help you:

  1. Figure out your research question
  2. Make a plan for carrying out the research
  3. Find books, articles, videos, statistics, facts, data—whatever sort of information you need
  4. Navigate through the library website or the open web
  5. Get resources not owned by Southern from other schools
  6. Cite your sources appropriately
